Terms of use
Last updated: 29 October 2026
These are the rules for using the SwipeKind app. By creating an account you agree to them. They're between you and SwipeKind C.I.C., a Community Interest Company registered in England and Wales (company number 17550118, registered office 46 Towpath Crescent, Woking, England, GU21 5RR), which runs SwipeKind. Please also read our privacy policy.
1. What SwipeKind is, and isn't
SwipeKind lets people post an essential household bill, and lets other people choose to cover it as a gift. The money goes straight to the company that sent the bill.
- We don't lend money. Nothing you get through SwipeKind has to be paid back.
- We don't give financial or debt advice. We'll point you to free services that do.
- We don't guarantee that any bill will be covered. Helpers choose freely, and some bills won't be.
2. Who can use SwipeKind
You must live in the UK and be 18 or over. You can have one account. Keep access to your email safe, because that's how you sign in.
3. If you're asking for help
- Bills must be essential household bills we accept: energy, water, council tax, phone or broadband, or TV licence. No credit cards, loans, buy now pay later, rent or subscriptions.
- Each bill must be between £20 and £150, and in your name or for your home.
- You can have one open bill at a time, one bill covered a month, and four covered in any 12 months. Bills paid by the Kindness Fund count towards these limits. Bills that close without being covered don't.
- Everything you tell us must be true, and the bill must be real and unchanged. We check every bill by hand and may ask for more information.
- Before your bill goes live, you may need to pass an ID check.
- If your bill isn't covered by its closing date (14 days after it's due), it comes off the board. You're still responsible for paying your bill, so please talk to your supplier if you're struggling.
4. If you're helping
- Covering a bill is a gift. It isn't a loan, and there's no repayment.
- You won't be told who the person is beyond their first name and town, and you mustn't try to find or contact them.
- When you choose to cover a bill, it's held for you for 15 minutes while you pay. If you don't finish, it goes back on the board.
5. Our 10% fee
Helpers pay the bill amount plus a fee of 10% of the bill. You'll always see the fee before you pay. It covers card fees, bill and ID checks, fraud protection and running SwipeKind, and a significant portion goes into the Kindness Fund to pay other bills that weren't covered that month.
- If the bill payment fails, we refund the fee automatically.
- Once the bill has been paid to the supplier, the fee can't be refunded.
6. Where the money goes
The bill payment goes straight from the helper's bank to the supplier through regulated payment providers. SwipeKind never holds bill money, and it never goes to the person who posted the bill.
7. Keeping SwipeKind safe
- Anyone can report a bill. We look at every report and may take a bill off the board while we check it.
- We can refuse or remove a bill, or suspend or close an account, if we think the rules have been broken, information is false, or someone may be at risk. Where it's safe to, we'll tell you why.
- You can close your account at any time in Settings.
8. The Kindness Fund
A significant portion of our fees goes into the Kindness Fund, which pays bills that weren't covered on the board, longest waiting first. Payments from the fund are made at our discretion and aren't guaranteed. You can't apply to it directly.
9. Our responsibility to you
We work hard to keep SwipeKind running and accurate, but we can't promise it will always be available or error free. We aren't responsible for losses that weren't foreseeable, for decisions helpers make, for a supplier's late fees, or for problems caused by payment providers or suppliers outside our control. Our total responsibility to a helper for any one cover is limited to the amount they paid for it.
Nothing in these terms limits anything the law doesn't allow us to limit, such as responsibility for fraud, or your legal rights as a consumer.
10. Complaints
If something's gone wrong, email info@swipekind.com and tell us what happened. We'll reply within 5 working days and aim to sort it out within 4 weeks.
11. Changes and the law
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we'll email you before it takes effect. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.
